Google Analytics 4 is a new type of property equivalent to a new web traffic measurement system. Previously known as an “App + Web” type property, it has Germany Email Database recently become the default experience when you create a new Google Analytics property . Create a Google Analytics 4 property There are two ways to create a GA4 property: Use the Setup Assistant in the Administration of your Universal Analytics property. This option will automatically take over some of the settings from your Universal property to create your GA4 property. Create a new property directly, again from your Universal Analytics Property Administration. It is this second option that we will favor, in particular because it allows to better detail the steps of the creation of a Google Analytics 4 property. Once clicked on the “Create Property” button, enter a name for your site, and specify the reporting time zone and currency.
Test your GA4 basic tag with Google Tag Manager
On the next page, you can answer questions about your business and its goals. Note that you can perfectly ignore this step. Your property is now created. Configure your data flow The next step will be to configure your data feed (s): website (s), iOS application and / or Android application – with one feed per site and per application. We will focus here on the data flow coming from a website: click on “Web”. In the next step, enter the URL of your site with the correct protocol (http or https) and the name of the stream: When creating the data feed, you will notice that “improved metrics” tracking is checked by default. This monitoring will automatically track events or types of interactions of your visitors with your site in your reports, from the page view (henceforth considered as an event) to scroll, including outgoing clicks.
You can activate or deactivate some of these events if they are not of interest to you. When you are ready, click on the “Create a feed” button. Add the basic Google Analytics 4 tag via Google Tag Manage Once the feed is created (web), you will have access to a metric ID. You will need it to install your tag via Google Tag Manager. Then go to your Google Tag Manager container> Tags> New. In the “Tag configuration” field, choose “Google Analytics: GA4 configuration”. In “Metric ID”, copy / paste the metric ID from your Analytics data feed. Keep the mention “Send a Pageview event when loading this configuration” checked to keep track of your page views.
Publish your tag in Google Tag Manager
On the trigger side, select the only one existing by default in a container, namely “All Pages”: your tag will be triggered each time a page is loaded on your site. Remember to clearly name your tag before saving it.
