Is Google giving large websites an unfair SEO advantage?

The biggest market in the world is not China. Russia or Brazil. It’s Google. No other platform in the world has as many searches. but also as many changes and requests. In the last 3 years. Google has launched 19 major updates and up to 150 minor ones. The company mentions thousands of new improvements every year.

There are so many updates and changes that even the best marketer can’t keep up with them all. let alone implement them in practice. And then the big question arises. What impact do outdated techniques have on  SEO ? Can Google favor large websites over small ones?

I thoroughly analyzed the websites that gained and lost the most SEO traffic over the past year to answer the question of whether large websites are gaining an unfair advantage from Google.

Method in practice

My colleagues and I looked at the top 1.000 websites that gained and lost the most visibility over the past year. We opened each one in Sistrix. We chose one relative change over the absolute change to normalize the size of the site. We set a minimum SEO visibility for the list of sites we needed and one to filter out spam.

We then cross-referenced the sites telegram database using traffic data from Ahrefs and backlinks to make correlations with factors such as backlinks and website traffic.

What was the result?

After adjusting for all variables. we got some interesting results: Pages with higher visibility have a strong correlation to SEO visibility growth over the past year.

For websites that have lost visibility over the past year. there is no correlation between SEO visibility and the size of their loss. What does this mean? Larger websites are more likely to be successful in SEO.

But don’t forget one thing: New websites can grow in size all the time. Today. building SEO is much harder than it was five or ten years ago. for example. but it is possible. Slowly but surely.

There are two reasons why large

One reason is how Google evaluates google faces new british investigation ranking signals. Larger  websites  tend to have more authority. This allows them to increase their visibility and rank for more terms if they can avoid scale issues. maintain high quality content. and continue to satisfy their users by solving their problems.

Authority. based on our understanding. is the result of content quality. brand strength. and of course. the number of backlinks. And Google seems to be aware of all this and is taking appropriate action.

We can see this. for example. in SEO liechtenstein number visibility and the number of linking domains. For example. websites that have gained organic visibility have more backlinks. But their visibility seems to have deteriorated a bit over the last 12 months. This means that the volume of backlinks is still very important. bing year by year.
