We do it not because it’s useful, but because it’s a habit. The right way to use title tags

John Mueller went on to explain that Google reads titles the way they are supposed to be, that is, to understand the topic of the paragraphs that follow the title. “We use title tags for Google search. But we use them to better understand the content of the pages. ” It is wrong to believe that H1 titles are more important as an SEO factor than H2 titles and H2 titles are more important than H3 titles and so on. It is not true that one should put his most important keywords in the higher level heading section and the less important keywords in the lower level heading sections. The relative importance of header tags, that an H1 is more important than an H2, was a real ranking factor over 15 years ago.

John Mueller explains that this is no longer the case: “So… this question of… how should I order my headings H1, H2, H3 and what the content should be, is something that, in my view, is not really relevant. ” It is clear that header tags can indicate hierarchical levels of information, that several H3 headers are sub-topics of the previous H2 etc… It is not a question of SEO ranking factor. Title tags have often been in the top ten in lists of ranking factors for several decades. Mueller explains that keywords in title tags are not necessary for organic positioning: “If your page suddenly becomes more visible on a theme, it’s not because you have included keywords in the title tags.
